Practical Strategies to Respond to Youth Mental Health Challenges - Grant County Marion, IN - Ivy Tech

With the rise in mental health challenges among people of ALL ages nationwide, it is becoming more and more critical for adults who work with kids and teens (or who are raising kids and teens!) to become aware of the warning signs for mental unwellness and ways to help support them. This presentation will share signs for the most common mental health challenges, as well as ways to intervene - including specific scripts for what to say. By providing specific things to say (with these scripts), attendees will feel more confident in stepping into the gap in hard moments with kids. Most often, we worry, "What if I say the wrong thing??" or "What if I am wrong?" This presentation will ease those worries and provide practical, clinical- and research-based information to give additional tools for your 'connecting with kids' toolbox. Join this session for an interactive, candid presentation about all things kids and adolescents.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe common mental health challenges in kids and adolescents.

  • Practice specific phrases to intervene when someone around them is struggling with a mental health challenge.

  • Develop a personal plan for how to recognize and respond through a trauma-informed lens to people with mental health challenges in your personal and professional lives.
